Loved by its loyal customers for the carefully chosen selections and the outstanding food and wine pairing service provided by wine director and owner, Elizabeth Groth, Embry Village Wine has entered its tenth year as one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets.

Why should you shop here?
Not only because we’re big (7100 sq. ft.) but we’re civilized, courteous, clean and smart. If you’ve wished for a reliable palate to help guide you on your journey in the exciting world of wine, here she is! Elizabeth Groth, partner and wine director grew up in the wine business in Napa Valley. After working eight years for her family’s winery, Elizabeth moved to Atlanta. For the next five years she rounded out her experience by becoming a wine broker and a distributor rep before she opened her retail outlet. “Twenty three years later and having experienced all facets of the business, I’ve decided that I like retail best because of the (almost) immediate feedback I get from my customers,” Elizabeth says.
Selection & Quality
Every wine that you find on our shelves has been tasted and/or evaluated by Elizabeth, and if it’s not worth the money, she doesn’t buy it. We may not have all the brands that you recognize (and we’ve taken a lot of heat for this), but we always find you a great substitute that is often better for less money. Our customers tell us that we never “steer them wrong.”
Explorer Pack™ or How to Have Your Own Private Wine Taster
Each month Elizabeth tastes 150-200 wines, chooses the six white and six red that she thinks are the best, then presents them as the Explorer Pack.™. Typically priced from $50-$70, the Pack contains Elizabeth’s tasting notes and food suggestions along with a response card. Beginning in May of l999, the Explorer Pack™ has gained popularity to include a mailing list of over 850 fans! Elizabeth says,
“People get stuck drinking one wine because they’re afraid their experiment will be a waste of money. I mix up the Pack selections each month, offering a wide range of styles, price points and countries. Customers applaud this effort, finding that good, well-balanced wines of any varietal can be pleasurable and most important, the perfect choice with certain foods.”
Just Our Opinion: Wine Is Food
The majority of the world only serves wine with a meal. Here in the U.S. wine is still widely viewed as cocktails. Perhaps that’s why the big, juicy monsters from California are so popular. Still, our doctors tell us that a glass of wine is healthful. Instead of treating it as medicine, why not learn what would be fun to drink with the food you’re preparing?
